At work

Dan began working in financial services in the late 2000s, initially as a Mortgage Adviser. He joined the Professional Finance Centre (East Midlands) Limited in 2011 as an Administrator, then became a Financial Planner in 2013. Dan purchased the firm from Richard Shanks in 2018; it is now Chambers Smith, as you know it today. Committed to holistic financial planning, Dan’s goal is to help people meet their objectives; whether that be saving money on tax, making the most of their money in retirement, or seeing their children and grandchildren enjoy the money in their lifetime. Dan specialises in Inheritance Tax and estate planning, as well as investment planning and pension planning. He believes the most rewarding thing about his job is seeing clients achieve peace of mind, safe in the knowledge that their finances are being looked after. Dan is also a member of the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

At play

Dan is married to Georgie and they have two children, Nancy and Mabel. What with running a company and having two little ones and a French bulldog, Betsy, Dan’s spare time is somewhat limited. When he does get some free time, Dan enjoys football, going to the gym, walking the dog and eating out.

Some important details

All regulated financial advisers must be authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and therefore appear on their register. You can find Dan’s entry by clicking here. Furthermore, all advisers must have an up-to-date Statement of Professional Standing (SPS). This shows they are suitably qualified and have carried out the required amount of Continuous Professional Development (CPD). Again, consumers should be wary of any advisers who refuse to provide copies of their SPS. If you would like to see Dan’s, please get in touch.

An interview with Dan

On an ideal weekend you can find me:

“Walking the dog, watching the football then going for a meal at our favourite Indian restaurant.”

My favourite holiday destination is:

“Vilamoura, Barbados or New York.”

The first album I bought was:

“Stereophonics – Word Gets Around.”

If I could be any fictional character, I would be:

“Jason Bourne.”

If I could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, I would win a medal in:

“Skimming stones.”

When the dessert menu arrives, I’m looking for:

“Apple pie and custard.”

The three qualities that draw me to new people are:

“Humour, honesty and loyalty.”

My pet peeve is:

“Nuisance phone calls.”

The best gift I’ve ever received is:

“The news that we were expecting our first child.”

The three people at my dream dinner party would be:

“Will Ferrell, Sir Alex Ferguson, Richard Branson.”

The three small things that make my day better are:

“A cup of tea first thing in the morning, rocky road, and seeing my wife, daughter and dog at the end of a hard day.”
